Herbal detox teas are widely available on the market. They can include American and European herbs, Chinese herbs, Indian herbs, herbs from the Amazon rainforest, or herbs from any other part of the world.
With so many different types of detox tea available, choosing the right tea to meet your daily needs is an important decision. It can help your body deal with the overwhelming number of toxins in the air, water and food we consume daily.
A growing body of research suggests that many of the chemicals we consume daily can become deposited in fat cells in our bodies. A diet that lacks certain nutrients may also impair our natural ability to detoxify chemicals, which further leads to their build-up in the body.
The cumulative load, called the "body burden", is thought to lead to illness and has been linked to hormonal imbalance, impaired immune function, nutritional deficiency, and an inefficient metabolism. Signs are thought to include indigestion, bad breath, fatigue, poor skin, and muscle pain.
Researchers estimate that our bodies are about 100 times more toxic than that of our grandparents. As scientists reveal connections of potentially toxic elements such as lead, mercury, and aluminum in even sperm cells, many people shake their heads and think there is nothing that can be done. They are wrong.
Traditional Medicine
For centuries, man has through trial and error understood how to use natural herbs for cleansing.
It hasn’t been until the last few decades that medical science has studied the topic of detoxification in depth. Some of these studies report how different herbs with specific chemical constituents activate different parts of the detoxification process.
In time, the true picture of how herbs detoxify will be revealed. In the meantime, we shall take comfort in the fact that this holistic art has been perfected by Chinese Traditional Medicine and Indian Ayurvedic Medicine for thousands of years, and still survives modern scientific scrutiny.
Organ Cleansing
Our bodies have natural healing potential and are miracles in themselves. One of those miracles is that we have seven different organs to help us remove toxins through a detoxification process. Those organs are the skin, colon, liver, kidney, blood, lungs, and immune system.
A detox tea will generally include herbs that assist one or more organs in cleansing. The key is to know which organs are in need of cleansing, and then select a tea that cleanses that organ.
Herbal Detox Tea - 3-Step Information Guide
Ordinary Tea Versus Detox Tea
The difference between ordinary teas and detox teas is that ordinary teas are either composed of one herb, two herbs or herbs with fruit and flavorings. On the other hand, an detox tea usually contains specific organ cleansing and supportive herbs. It sometimes contains fruit.
The reason why detox tea often contains a number of herbs is because they act in synergy, i.e. the combination maximizes the cleansing effects.
For example, just drinking dandelion root tea by itself would help cleanse the liver. But drinking a cup of tea containing dandelion, milk thistle, chanca pedra, slippery elm and citrus aurantium would be superior in its detoxification effects.
