Green Tea: Decaf versus Regular

by Ana
(USA)

My doctor has suggested I drink 3 cups of green tea daily for infertility. The more I read, the more I am confused on drinking caffeinated vs decaf green teas.

Can you assist me? Should I just stick with the decaf Chinese green tea?

Please advise.

Thank you.
Ana

Ana, why are you considering drinking a decaffeinated green tea? For most people, drinking a small amount of high quality green tea is the best course of action.

There is no need for additional processing such as decaffeination as if is not done properly it will destroy the antioxidants in the process. This is discussed in the article below.

If you are searching for a decaf, avoid one using chemical solvent, go for CO2 method.

My advise is to drink really high quality green tea made from young tea buds harvested in spring, traditionally the highest grade green tea consumed by people in the Far East.

These youngest tea buds contain the highest concentration of beneficial compounds such as the antioxidants EGCG and theanine.

Hey, when drinking a decaf, try to look for carbon dioxide decaf. I would avoid using those decaffeinated using a chemical solvent.

As for a high quality green tea, see my previous post and there certainly are many choices from my tea shop, see links below.
