I have been taking beta sitosterol and green tea is included in the formulation of the pill [200 mg].

I have an intense itching which seems to intensify during exercise or stress ; when I decrease the pill use so too does the itching .

I have only started taking super green tea capsules diet pill. I noticed that I itch all over my body and quite alert at night.

The Itching was so intense that I had to take anti histamine pills to relieve the itching. Does anybody have this experience with green tea?

I've been researching itching due to antihistamine withdrawal. In doing so I've been reading about foods that contain or involve histamine production in the body.

Tea is high on the list of histamine production in the body. But also taking antihistamines to control the itch might be making it worse for you as there have been many documented cases of extreme itching after you stop taking antihistamines (benadryl, Zyrtec, Allegra, Claritin etc).

I've been taking green tea pills for about two years and had bad scalp itch, had to go and get a colon check, and was told to stop taking the green tea a week before, I'm sure the itch stopped, yesterday I had extreme itching again after starting the green tea again, so today I'm going to stop taking them and see if it goes away, which I'm sure it will, jim

Just googled this and found this site.

I started drinking green tea about 5 days ago and a couple hours after I drink it certain spots on my body start itching. Backs of my legs and tops of my arms. I wonder if this is what's causing it or if it's just a coincidence?? Glad to see that I'm not alone on this though.

I started itching 5 years ago and have spent over $1000 going to doctors and allergists to get to the bottom of my itch. The doctors have had me smear anti lice cream all over my body, the allergist gave me tests that cost a fortune and wanted me to come in twice a week for shots (to line his pocket with gold) my GP told me I had something laughable, another told me I had pssorrias under my skin, called sub psorrias or something like that, another told me I had excema with no rash.

I have been miserable for 5 years. It is worse in the summer in places I sweat. I am thankful for your postings. I have been a lifelong tea drinker, drinking up to 6 cups a day. 5 days with absolutely no tea (but a bad headache from withdrawals) and the itch has completely gone away. It was all over my body and so intense that I used a serated knife to scratch it. Thank God I found the answer.

 Bladder issues with green tea

Drinking green tea apparently signals my bladder to think its got an infection. I have the same symptoms as a beginning infection, and I've even gone to doctors thinking this was the case.

Subsequent tests showed no infection, but I was very uncomfortable. It wasn't until a little bit of detective work that I discovered I did not have the problem off the green tea.

I am wondering if regular tea could cause some itching as well . Tea is noted for a high fluoride content which can affect some people .

Giving up green tea definitely stopped most of the itching but some itch remains , maybe because I still drink black tea.

I'm glad to have found this site and kind of relieved that I'm not the only one to be itching after drinking green tea.

Although I have had green tea off & on but never experienced any itching. Maybe it's this particular one with jasmine, passion fruit and orange.

Now I know the reason for itching. Surprisingly there is little to no itching during the day time but it's really bad at night.

I just started taking Green Tea Extract for its health benefits. Although the recommended dosage is two capsules, I started by taking just one capsule last night and woke up during the night with intense itching on my feet and legs, up to my knees.

The itching was so bad, it was burning. I had started taking other dietary supplements as well, but from the research I have done, I believe the itching may have been caused by the Green Tea Extract.

I am not sure if I can tolerate taking 1/2 capsule. I would like to receive its health benefits, but I may not be able to take it at all. Although an occasional cup of green tea does not cause any itching at all.

The same thing happened to me after I drank green tea I had skin itches on my face and on my body, I think it is related to my blood type. I'm blood type A+. Maybe because of that, I don't know?

I also itch all over and believe it is down to drinking too many cups of tea(ordinary) in a day.Will give it up for a week and judge the results.

This morning I have had just water and Ovaltine until now and was reasonably ok, but a few minutes ago decided to try a cuppa and am itching like crazy.

I had the bladder and the itch issue, therefore I stopped drinking green tea, but I drink without issues Oolong tea, Robios and honey bush teas. They taste great too.

Thank you so much for your posts. I have the itching issue as well, especially on my scalp, back and arms. I thought I was going crazy, but could only pinpoint my itching to when I consumed green tea. Regular iced tea or black tea doesn't have the same isue.

I have noticed itching when I drink tea--any type. This is so frustrating as I drank tea for years with no reactions. I do believe they are fertilizing tea with chitin which is from the shells of crabs and lobsters and anyone with a shellfish allergy will respond to that as the plants take that up into their leaves.

I have been itchy all over for for about a month. It has been driving my insane! I have been going crazy just crazy trying to figure it out and I've done nothing different but started drinking 4C ice tea. So I decided to look it up Thank God here you are! I'm certain that I have allergic reactions to green tea. When I have trouble sleeping I drink green herbal teas and Sleepytime; after my 3rd mug my ENTIRE body itches~scalp, eyes, eye lids, arms, face, stomach, back, legs, pubic hair...

Reading others post simply confirms it! I love herbal teas but only when I drink green tea do I frantically itch! I usually flush my system with distilled water and i feel more relaxed!
I read someone else post who stated they think their blood type A+ have something to do with it...you may have a point, I too am blood type A+.

I'm so glad I found this site. I have been itching on my feet and hands too. At the new year I started working out and taking dietary supps. This site helped me narrow it down to the green tea. thank god I found this site because im definately going to stop taking the green tea. The itching is uncontrollable.

The first time I had the problem of itching was in Kuwait.I was drinking at least 24 oz per day. The doctor immediately asked if I was using green tea and said people have no idea how toxic it is.

Green Tea is not the baby leaves of black tea. I can consume all I want of black tea and no problem.

I'm ok if I only have 6 oz of green tea per day, otherwise I will go nuts at night and swear my mattress has bed mites (itching).

I love "China Mist" jasmine green tea.

On Friday I began drinking green tea. Initially I drank one bottle of liptons.

On Saturday I awoke with an uncomfortable itch and burn in my pubic area.

Drank two more bottles. I've stopped as I have had severe diarrhea. And now realize that the burning and itching are the same as I felt with a reaction to tetracyclene.

I nearly threw out my favorite couch and almost cleaned a hole in my bedroom rug thinking I had some kind of bugs crawling around!

It wasn't until I isolated some of the things I had been eating and drinking that I found out it was the green tea that was making me itch!

I am so disappointed as I just spent a good amount on some green tea, only to find that it is the tea that is the culprit!

For the past 2 months I have been itching all over and going out of my mind and driving my family crazy!

I have recently found relief after I stopped drinking the green tea.

I guess I will have to find another type of tea to drink. I am glad however, that I found this forum...I was on my way to going crazy!

 Loss of bladder control

I have been drinking a lot of green tea for the past 3 years and have recently started having loss of bladder control. Its very embarressing as the urine just comes out in little spurts at all hours of the day that I have to wear a sanitary pad all the time. I wonder if its due to my heavy green tea drinking?

I was in my 30's and started drinking it daily and started losing bladder control. The MD said the green tea irritated my bladder and a lot of people are allergic to it.

OMG! I started drinking green tea about 6 weeks ago for it's (antioxidant properties) and can identify with almost every story. I had all over body itching, called an exterminator in to check for bedbugs, took the indoor cat to vet to check for fleas, been vacuuming like crazy steam cleaning everything in sight! Scratching like a nut applying Benadryl, cortisone creams etc. etc. etc, I am stopping the Green tea and hope this was the culprit I was drinking the decaf one as I am a lifelong tea drinker. I started this tea for pre menapuse energy loss and it helped but the itching started about a month ago I have drank this for two years but the peson who also said they use chitin to fertalize the siol from seafood shells of crab and lobster! i am so allergic to shellfish since 2011...also i may be allergic to the floride i amm allergic to this to intooth paste so bad i Get clentched teeth and sleepness thank God Foe this site I am a Medical tech. from Air force Disabled from food allergies and also latex Thank you All so much for Your Honesty and seeking and sharing of truth You all may have saved my life!

 Facial Gel causes extreme itch

Finding this site makes me feel better already - I'm not the only one itching from green tea.
I started using a facial gel on my face a few months ago... I have allergies and a lot of things can make me itch... but it finally occurred to me that the green tea extract in the facial gel might be causing some of the itch. I tried putting a little on my forearm and waited to see what happened... within an hour my left arm was itching intensely. I KNOW it's the green tea - especially after reading all of these posts. The itching is SO intense - I can't imagine, and don't want to find out, what would happen if I drank it.
I will avoid green tea from here on out.

I started drinking white tea , different flavor varieties lipton has , and sometimes combining the white tea bag and a green tea bag.i have occasionally had green tea in the past and never had any reaction. as I have been drinking 4 c of white tea a day , I started itching like crazy. So, after reading this site, I don't know if it is the green tea or the white tea or both. my stomach and flanks itch so bad .

I am so glad I found this site, I gave up coffee for lent three weeks ago and started drinking jasmine, green and fennel tea mostly green tea, my body has been intensely itchy now for the three weeks, I just put it down to bathing in radox I thought maybe I had added too much, but as the time went on thought I had caught scabies. After reading many helpful comments I am now going to stop drinking the green tea to see if that's the problem.

I heard some years ago that the tannic acid in tea can cause something but I'm not sure what. All I know is that when I do drink caffeinated teas it affects my nervous system and I itch.

I googled green tea/itching as I have intense itching at night, [making sleep impossible] whenever I drink black or green tea, or green tea extract capsules. The itch is so frustrating as it is beneath the surface of the skin so there is no way to relieve it. I get it mostly on arms and shoulders. I wondered if it is the tanins in tea causing the burning itch.

I wondered why my body has been itching all over. Especially my arms & my neck. Even my foot getting hot over the weekend. Process of elimination after last nights episode when I had a hot cup of green tea, I began t itch all over. I flushed my body by drinking 6 bottles of water which helped.  Itching due to Green Tea supplements

I started taking Green Tea capcules, which had ~ 175mg of EGCG and found my itching all over my body - from ears to feet. Without suspecting tea as a cause, I took anti-histmamine assuming allergies but that didn't help. I then stopped Tea supplements and itching reduced.
I also seemed to aggravate pin worm type parasitic infection during this itching time - not sure if they were related.

I never had so severe itching or parasitic infection before in my 34 years of life.

I experimented thrice with these tea supplement capsules and on all three occasions I got itching. This confirmed that those capsules were indeed the cause behind my itching.

 Annoying itching and hives

I suffered for 3 months with hives, all over itching and stomach issues. I was diagnosed with a Fragrance allergy. Fragrance is in almost everything we use. My symtoms are 80% better after eliminating all allergic items from my life, but I still itch & need to take Zyrtec on a regular basis. I am an everyday tea drinker,ice tea, hot black, white & green. Being so frustrated with my itching I began to research on my own and stumbled onto this sight. I have the bladder issue to, but thought that came with age. Now that I've read all these posts I'm stopping all my tea drinking and will repost if my itching stops. Thanks to all who have written here. I hope this is the answer for me.

I just returned from Florida to the cold north east. My friend gave me some oolon tea which I have been drinking for the past 10- days. Usually only 2- cups a day. Now I developed this itch that seems to be worse I when I wake up. It's a possibility that coming from the warm to the cold that I have developed this rash? But, after reading all the posts, I'm now convinced that it may be the oolon tea. I will stop drinking that tea and post later again to let you know if that was the cause

For approx 5 years I have been suffering with intense itching on my upper arms/shoulder. It's worse at night and I wake myself up scratching. Once I start scratching the itches it gets so much worse. I now think, after reading comments from others in this forum, that the cause may be Green Tea. Such a shame as I enjoy Green Tea. I will be very happy if I have now found the cause, but sad to not be able to drink Green Tea anymore. I don't drink any other tea.

I just started the high dose Green Tea pills for weight loss 2 days ago. I am going nutz with the constant itching. I am going to try to flush it out of my system, with lots of water and never, never, never take them again! Overweight is much better than this itch!!!!!

I moved house 6 months ago and within 2 weeks developed extreme itching and rash on upper arm. I thought I was allergic to something environmental. The rash and intense itching eventually spread to my trunk and flanks.

Nothing relieved it. My skin was very hot to the touch which was not normal.I suffered with this for 5 months. Soon after moving I had purchased a box of green tea from the dollar store which I drank daily.

2 weeks ago I purchased some Good Earth tea and drank that instead of green tea.

To my amazement and relief within 3 days the itching stopped and it became apparent the green tea was the cause of the problem. I never had an issue with Lipton green tea but the stuff from the dollar store is dangerous and likely contaminated. I threw it away.

Been itching like mad all over my body and little spots appeared , for months and months had them went to the doctors told me i had scabies cream didnt work and still was itching then was told i have hypo sensitive skin was given histamine tabs they didnt work was really annoying all this itchin was in tears wondering what the hell was goin on was it scabies again ??? doctors says it was again !!even bought tee tree wash see if it help nope decided stop certain things in eating and drinking at end found out was defo the green tea which was doin it and sometimes black tea if i have to many of them took a few days for itching to fully stop but so much relief no itching so have to watch what i drink avoid the tea.

 A natural solution for itching

A natural solution to resolve the issue of itching after the consumption of green tea, would be to combine 3 different essential oils that act as a natural antihistamine... They include: Lavender oil, Lemon oil, and peppermint oil.

This can be taken internally. Approximately 3 drips a piece (of each oil).

I noticed results within the first day.

I've been drinking Organic Green Matcha Tea for over one month. At the same time, I've had sever itching with hives and welts that come and go.

Taking Claritin has controlled the itching and I thought the itching was being caused by something else. It did not occur to me it's the Green Tea.

I will stop drinking it and see what happens. I will be sad it's the tea, because there are so
many benefits associated with it!

I also drank some green matcha tea and within an hour my whole body started to itch. I'm so disappointed because I love tea so much and have never been a coffee drinker so tea is life.

Instead of completely eliminating it, I plan to try it again using half of what I put in my cup. I put 1 tsp of match in my cup hoping to bring it down to 1/2 a tsp to see if this makes a difference.

I'm also blood type A positive so not sure if this has anything to do with it. Good Luck all...

I started drinking green and developed intense itch with hives/rash. Found this site a month later and stopped drinking green tea. My rash/hives went away. I eat lots of high histamine foods (tomato, avocado, cheese, beef jerky etc) with no problem prior. But now, if I eat high histamine foods, my rash come back.

Green tea inhibits DAO (an enzyme in the intestine which breaks down ingested histamine). A month of drinking green tea affected/blocked my DAO causing an accumulation of excess histamine in my body. So now, I have to eat a low histamine diet to slowly flush away said histamine. Everyone has a different tolerance to histamine. Once this threshold is reached, rash/hives will break out.

I'm currently taking a low histamine probiotic to assist DAO in breaking down ingested histamine until I'm back to normal. I'm posting this info so that more readers can learn why some begin to itch after drinking green tea. If you are reading this, I hope this info helps.
