Green Tea and Urine Smell - Any View?

I drink 3-4 pots of tea a day (12-16 cups) Since I have been drinking tea my urine odour has been strong. I am gong to try drinking more water and less tea. But, is this a side effect of green tea at all?

Answer:

I am not aware that this is a green tea side effect. If anything, green tea has been known to help with reducing urinary infection.

One thing I do note is that you seem to drink a very large quantity of green tea. You may want to check you are drinking a quality cup of tea, not something that is highly processed.

Urine smell

I to have what I have named SPS Smelly Pee Syndrome. I had this for almost a year. I got sick and was put on an antibiotic and it went away. It was a urinary track infection. I only have one functioning kidney so I need to be careful. I now know if I have SPS I have a UTI. You may want to have that checked out as the smell of my urine is my only symptom.

Green tea and strong pee

I too have notice stong urine smell since I have been drinking alot of green tea. I normally drink Telly Green Tea. Is there a better one I should be drinking?

Urine odour

I also suffered from gross urine odour. After removing a different medication and food from my diet for 24hrs I found green tea was the cause. Well the odour disappear within 12hrs. I was drinking about 4-6 cups of high quality green tea leaves( not bagged tea) / day. No green tea for nearly a week = no odour.

Urine Smell

I was a heavy coffee drinker (3-4 cups a day) for a long time until I was diagnosed with high cholesterol and high triglycerides.

After talking to my doctor she wanted me to start on a medication call Tricor, I refused and I wanted to lower it on my own.

After reading I found out that drinking green tea will be beneficial for me not only for the caffeine but for my cholesterol.

I started drinking a venti Ice green tea lemonade with artificial sugar about two to three a day, after two and a half weeks I started to notice a weird smell on my urine follow by an irritation just like when you are going to get a urine infection.

I am planning on talking to my doctor about this since I am due for my cholesterol count soon. I will post my doctors input on this matter later

One-a-Day

I've been drinking green tea for breakfast for quite a few years now, and it was only this week that I realised that it was the cause of the smelly urine I've had for some time. The vagina area was smelly too. I had changed to black tea for a couple of weeks and the smelly urine stopped, then started again when I resumed drinking green tea. It's just ordinary gunpowder tea I drink. I know it's supposed to be good for us, and there are times when I just can't drink black tea, so I'll probably continue drinking it - just not so often. It's not nice to feel that you smell 'down there.'

I to realize when drinking green tea my urine has a very high odor even when I drink a lot of water. I stop drinking it and realize that the odor went away.

Green Tea and Pee

I started drinking green tea with artificial sweetener in it instead of so much soda, and after a time I noticed a very strong odour in my urine.
I cut out the green tea and in 12 hours the smell vanished, too. Don't think it was anything harmful, but I did think it was an odd side-effect .

I had green tea last night, and my urine smell is so strong. I thought of searching on Google if any of the things I ate or drank could have had an effect. Green tea came to the mind 1st because it's the last drink I took and I rarely drink it.

Is green tea really good for you?

I had notice for some time now that after I drink green tea my urine smells strong. At first I thought it had to been something else I ate or drank. But I've been keeping up with what I eat or drink now. And I'm site it is the green tea 200%.

My urine smells strong and I get an irritation after like if my going to get an infection. When I so for a few days drinking the green tea it goes away. This is not just a week's study not even a month. But more than a year now so I finally stop drinking green tea. I don't understand because it's supposed to be good for you.

I have noticed the same issue, but I do not think that it is bad to drink green tea. Asparagus can also make urine smell, and I have never heard that is bad for anyone. I wonder if white tea does the same. I think I may try it. More expensive but has a lovely delicate taste.

Green tea pills

I started taking green tea pills from a green tea plantation only found in China. They produce their special green tea leaves and pills that are never exported out of China. You have to go there to get them. I also drink Honest organic Green Tea ice tea. I'm eat organic foods only. I take 1 pill and 1 Probiotic pill every morning. While I feel healthier no achy bones or muscles and finally am loosing weight a healthy way my only complaint is my urine smell. Reminds me of how I'll people in the hospital have a smelly urine or people on medications. It's very strong and embarrassing. I too feel a slight sensation as if to be getting a urinary infection so I'm going to get it checked out. I have no reason for an infection unless good induced. ?? I won't give up to positive effects of my routine and spray my clothes with frebreeze in the morning to mask any offensive odors since I am a teacher. I carry a change of underwire in case

Yes! It makes my urine smell!

I have had a similar experience when drinking green tea drank on a regular basis. It truly does make my urine smell foul... Similar to the way asparagus makes ones urine smell. I even quit drinking green tea for 3 months because I disliked the smell so much. The foul smell of my urine disappeared when I stopped drinking green tea and reappeared when I introduced it again.

Yuck! Why doesn't anyone talk about this?

That is crazy that everybody is saying it makes their urine smell mines is the total oppisite. Every since i started drinking green tea my urine doesnt smell at all. Before green tea my urine smell was horrible. Maybe something else is wrong with you guys just my opinion..but i know it helped me.

Organic Green Tea with Matcha

My urine smells and gerateful it isn’t just me. I drink just water and coffee. Been abstinent for about a year and do not eat processed foods. I am trying to clear up an acne break out . I read green tea helps so hmmmmm, zit face or stinky pea?? I will deal with the stank until my face clears up. Good thing I am choosing to not have a partner.... Hahahaha. Its not that bad but still.
