Green Tea and Gallbladder Cancer
A study about green tea and gallbladder found that one cup a day reduces the risk of gallstones, gallbladder cancer and bile duct cancer by at least 27%.
This large population study was led by Ann Hsing of the National Cancer
Institute of Maryland in the United States.
Hsing's team gathered demographic, medical and dietary data from 627 persons
with biliary tract cancer, 1037 persons with gallstones, and 959 persons
randomly selected subjects in Shanghai, China.
Women who consumed at least one cup of green tea each day for at least 6
months are 27%, 44% and 35% less likely to suffer from gall stones, gallbladder
cancer and bile duct cancer respectively.
The researchers adjusted their analysis for age, education and body mass
index,
No significant health benefits were observed in men, who were mostly
cigarette smokers.
This study was published in the June 2006 edition of International Journal of
Cancer.
