Can Children Drink Tea Safely?
Why it is not a good idea for children to drink tea.
If
you have young kids, it may be advisable to minimize their consumption of tea
and coffee beverages.
An occasional sip is fine. But drinking tea regularly is less healthy for
children than it is for adults.
I am speaking out of common sense. I am not aware of any scientific study
that has been carried out.
With the absence of scientific evidence, it is appropriate to be judicial
when it comes to young children.
There are two reasons for this.
- Tea contains caffeine, which may cause
restlessness and sleeping disorders.
Some people say green tea contains little caffeine. That is a myth. High quality greens can contain as much
or even more caffeine than black tea.
Green Tea Caffeine
- Tea contains tannin, which reduces the
absorption of proteins and other nutrients.
It does so by inhibiting the actions of enzymes such as amylase and
lipase.
Drinking tea is great if you are a healthy adult trying to lose weight and
burn fat.
Tea is a dieting beverage. In contrast, young children need all the
nutrients to grow and develop.
Some experts say tea is good for children because it prevents tooth decay. If
that is the case, let them rinse their mouth with tea but no drinking.
