We have all heard of the numerous health benefits of green but how close can we objectively come to measuring it?

It is for this reason I viewed this research paper with great interest。 The paper is entitled: "Associations of green tea, coffee, and soft drink consumption with longitudinal changes in leukocyte telomere length."

What Are Telomeres?

Telomeres are protective caps at the ends of chromosomes, which contain DNA. Think of them like the plastic tips at the ends of shoelaces that prevent fraying. Telomeres protect your DNA strands from damage and prevent them from sticking to other chromosomes.

Now here is the key part: Telomere length is often considered a biomarker of aging. Shorter telomeres are associated with aging and diseases, while longer telomeres are linked to longevity and better health.

In this study, 1952 participants had their blood samples taken over a six year period. Green tea consumption was associated with shortening of telomeres or youth-ing. Soft drink did the opposite. Coffee was not associated with changes.

These research indicates green tea protects against telomere shortening and ageing. Here is the article:
